Of course Joyce is conceded! Every artist takes himself seriously or they couldn't create art in the first place. The novel is brilliant, if you wish to look at it that way. The novel is also a dreadful demon of a book, dragging you through purgatory if you wish to look at it that way too. Appreciate every work of art for what it is, because not everything is a masterpiece. But what is a masterpiece anyway?...
