Sons and lovers raises quite a number of issues. One wonders whether Mrs. Morel has been brought up to appreciate the challenges of marriage. It seems her puritan upbringing detarches her from the world of marriage and love. It is as if her sole purpose of getting married is to produce children and thus reduces her husband into a child bearing machine which is disposed at the slightest excuse. Her puritan upbringing has not trained her in the realities of living. The modern feminists would not wish to fight for the kind of independence that Mrs Morel enjoys, am sure. I also applaud Mr. Morel for first of all working hard to mantain his family, for going ahead and wring the best thing of life that he enjoys best...alcohol. One wonders what his life would be without this tranqualizer. How can a man live with such an infeeling wife and spoilt children?
