Paul Morel clearly suffers from mummy-sundrome.Unlike William he can never breake free.His whole world seems to revolve around his mother.Even early on it is as though he is in competition with his older brother for her affection.His play at being "sick' seems like attention seeking .Only when William dies does he become the center in her life.She lives through him and by doing that she confines him.
