I had to read this book for english class, then write a paper on it. This of course makes me hate the book, but the story is another question altogether. I have no idea whether or not I like this book because of the way events occured. After much research, I can see why everyone in the book had done what they did. This, however, does show the ideals and manorisms of the people of that era. All of it, in fact. Tess' moral standing efore she meets Angel shows the thoughts of the start of the era while Angel's reflects the end. The has many important lessons in it, but is a difficult book to read. I base this on the grounds that Tess went through so much trouble in her life that could have all been avoided if the Parson had never mentined her father's noble liniage. If one isn't careful it could make one sick at heart.
