I thought this book was really well written. The way he portrays the characters and the irony is amazing. Tess is a strong character, but has the misfortune of meeting a man that takes her innocence away. I love how he dosen't mention the rape but you can gain from the context clues that it happened. I loved the book I can't wait to see the movie.

Tess of the D'urbervilles is an incredibly well written novel that uses so many allusions, symbolism, and allegory that each idea presented is expressed in the most artistic way. The novel and story line itself is wonderful and causes the reader to keep on going. The emotions created by Hardy ellude to the reader feeling for each of the characters and wanting to become part of the story. I will never be able to forget this masterpiece.

Do you think Tess is a pure woman, which is talked about in another thread in the forum but has no outcome yet?
