Read Tess of the d'urbervilles! It is an extrordinary novel where Hardy presents Tess, a young girl who is the victim of her own life. She struggles against invincible forces such as, fate and destiny, which in the end kills her. The point of the story is that although she is physically tainted she is pure spiritually.
