I wrote an essay on BNW once, about how it is a direct result of the depression in England at the time it was written. The reference of clothing, where they must buy more at the first sign of wear and tear can be related back to the clothe market failures in England. New durable clothe was created in India, which outsold the English market driving it further into the depression. Just felt like passing that along, and encouraging anyone who reads this to check it out, there are a lot more references on top of that one to the Great Depression of the 1930's (BNW was written around this time).
