The writing was very compelling, as even in the first pages, I was surprised by Siddhartha's questioning and yearning for more understanding. The description of him by his family and friends seemed as if he would have been content to live the life they expected of him. However, as he went on to be an ascetic, to taste the pleasures of the flesh, and to learn with the Ferryman, Siddhartha's complex way of thinking intrigued questions that could affect anyone who wonders about the meaning of life. Spiritual journeys are different for every person, if taken at all, yet experiencing Siddhartha's entire lifetime, especially condensed into about 150 pages, was very thought-provoking and easily left readers with questions of their own.
