I read the novel, did not particularly like, but was more or less disappointed in the study of it during my class.

My instructor kept referring the extremely terrifying similarities between Marlow and Kurtz. I myself did not find this deep connection between the two. As Kurtz became more and more corrupted by the lack of "civilization," (civilization of course referring to the white man's belief of civilizing the "savages"), Marlow tended to repel bitter, petty, and evil behaviors of the manager and other men.

If someone could respond, (without insult please), please explain how these two characters were so similar and how that does contribute to the merit the book has been given. Thank you.
