Was Conrad the racist, or was it the intended readers??? There are comments within the text that is nothing short of racist, however throughout the entire novel Conrad keeps rubbing our noses in our brutal historical mistakes. Heart of Darkness is probably one of the most confronting novels of the 20th century.
