Heart of Darkness is the best book I have ever read. I have read it over and over. Conrad reveals the truth about the horror of what imperialism Europe was doing. This book if full of incredible insight. I never liked english until I read Heart of Darkness. Since I read it, I have been strongly considering changing my major to English. It is not easy to get through, but it is definitely worth it.
