<br>For me Heart of Darkness is an intimate description of human soul.Maybe it doesn't cover the whole aspects of our soul but a good portion.<br><br>Our instincts govern us. We're slaves of them.That's why he says we live between the policeman and the butcher.The only difference between us is that some of us only try to satisfy them and the others are idealistic, with high ideals and sincerily believe in them (like Mr Kurtz).<br><br>Civilazation only hidens our instincts and allows us to be idealistic. Allows us to go beyond. Our western civilazation is based on humanistic ideals, on fraternity, on freedom, ét cetera but in the end is only a thin cover on our savage and primitive soul.<br>Saludos from Spain<br>
