I recently chose this book to read for a huge literature report and was immediately grateful when I realized the work required---I have to read The Sea Wolf several times, and it doesn't bother me at all. I found Larsen's parallels to Milton's Lucifer appealing, seeing that I am also an avid student of Paradise Lost etc. on my own free time [I have no life, obviously]. The battle between Larsen and Van Weyden is one of the most interesting conflicts I have ever read, and Larsen's philosophies often strengthened or questioned my beliefs. He is a remarkably deep character for all his seemingly simple appearance.
