I think the book sends a good message, but it was difficult to understand because of all the referances it made to France and French history. If I wanted to understand the whole thing I would've had to open the dictionary up every 5 pages to look up the places Hugo was talking about. Other than being a little confussed, it was pretty good, but Le Miserables was definetely better.
