The Hunchback of Notre Dame was the first novel I ever remember reading. My father had suggested it to me when I was barely a teenager. I was intimidated by the size of the book. He said, "You'll either love it or hate it. I think you'll love it. Give it a chance." I did. I remember it took weeks for me to read the entire book. And I'll never forget reading the last chapter. It was the first time a book had ever actually moved me to tears. I was absolutely amazed that mere words on a page could make me cry. I remember running to my dad, still crying, showing him the book and asking him how this happened. How could just words in a book make me cry? He replied, "Welcome to literature."
