I first read this book in fifth grade after I saw the musical, and absolutely loved it then. Now I'm in eleventh grade and am doing an essay on it, which first meant that I was just going to skim the book again, but it's too powerful not to reread. Now I have a much better and deeper understanding of the book. It is so powerful and speaks such depth of the human spirit. I'm not a very sentimental person but this book moves me like none other I have ever read (and I've read a lot). Although the history can be tedious, it truly adds to the book if you have the patience to read through it. This book should be required reading because it challenges us all to examine our inner selves and those around us and see what is important to us all.
