I have loved the musical since I was in second grade. The power and emotion in it always enthralled me, and still never fails to captivate me. Now I'm in ninth grade and I'm reading the novel, and I love it even more than the musical. The characters are so realistic that I find myself nearly crying at the descriptions of Eponine, fascinated by Javert, awed by Valjean, and, at times, terrified of Thenardier. The history in the book is great as well; where else can you find such a detailed depiction of Waterloo? I admit, the tangents can be a bit tedious, but I think they add effect to the story. I wish more people would read it. (I keep telling my mom how great it is, and now she's jealous; she wants to read it too!)
