This is no book for a child. You have utterly lost yuor mind. War is for adults not children. And the treatment of woman throughout the book is no example for our son. I think they would be better suited to play outside using their imaginations or perhaps read Dr. Seuss

My seven year old daughter has been reading War and Peace over the past couple months. A few times a week we discuss what she's read and she is enthusiastic with the unfolding story lines. She and my younger son draw pictures depicting some of the scenes in the novel. This is my third time going through the novel, and now that it seems to have become a family affair, I find it even more enjoyable. I recommend sharing the reading through discussion with friends or family, even reading aloud to each other, and doing research on Tolstoy and discussing his personal history and philosophy. This is sometimes a difficult read, but the more thought and work you put into it, the more rewarding it becomes.
