I think that this was an excellent book. It is not a cheery, feel-good book, and deals with the unpleasant things in human life, but it does so in a way that leaves you with room for hope--it shows you how NOT to live, at the very least. After finishing the book I resolved to give everyone the benefit of the doubt in every situation. I could not put this book down, and hope to someday write novels in something like Hardy's calibre.
