I would not read this book. While it is nice that it is empowering to women, it just isn't very good. The narrative is all over the place (you may think it's original for Jane to repeatedly talk directly to the reader; no, it's just sloppy). The pacing isn't very good, in fact it is very difficult to get through the first chapters just because of this. Also, the plot of the book can be pretty accurately summed up by this: I'm Jane Eyre, my adopted parents hate me, I'm shy and I can't get a man. Sorry to all of the girls who connect with the character, but reading this book is like reading the diary of an ugly, lonely girl.
