I was assigned Jane Eyre for my AP English class, and I found the book to be very slow and overly developed in areas. I think that this negative aspect of the book can only be credited to Charlotte Brontė's poor writing. Much like her sisters, she tried to compensate for her gender by using pompous diction, and taking the already elaborative means of description (during that time period, most writers often used superfluous detail and description) to an annoying level. I liked some themes and issues presented in the novel, but overall I found myself annoyed and bored with Jane Eyre.
