I read a D.H.Lawrence book entitled "The White Peacock" - it was his first published novel. I think he was 21. And here indeed, is the perfect example of a 'white' peacock...lovely photo.
So pure isnt it? I read Sons and Lovers by him and I didnt enjoy it that much and stopped reading any of his books.. is The white peacock worth a read?
Yes, so pure and so beautiful. Reading the novel is not worth it, unless you are a die-hard fan of Lawrence's. Maybe later in life, you will read his some of his work and see it differently. Most people who don't like his work, don't truly understand what he was getting at; his work also contains a lot of symbolism and deeper meaning. But to each his own; we all have different tastes. For me, his work says something to me poetically and artistically. "Sons and Lovers" is a very early work; basically autobiographical; when I first attempted the book years ago, I gave up on it, too; now I have re-read it twice and I love the book; but I am older so I can relate to some of the things in the novel. Now "The White Peacock" is definitely a young work, his first published novel. I would not recommend it to anyone, unless they liked other Lawrence work and knew his biography, etc. So for me, the book took on new meaning; I enjoyed it, although I know it is flawed. I have read nearly all of Lawrence's work by now. I just bought his second published novel to read. I don't know quite what to expect; it is suppose to be different than anything else he wrote.
Interesting! Thanks for explaining your views and thoughts of Lawrence's books. I will definitely go back to read his books when I am older!
