Summary Chapter 48

Elinor had harbored a hope that Edward would not marry Lucy. She is surprised they married so soon before he was ordained and had a living, but she assumes it was Lucy’s idea. She wishes their friends would visit, for she is hungry for more news.

Edward arrives. The Dashwoods give him a civil though awkward welcome. Edward reveals that it was his brother Robert who married Lucy. Elinor runs out, bursting into tears of joy. Edward goes and takes a walk.
