Irish poet/dramatist Oscar Wilde was to achieve public recognition with his play 'Lady Windermere's Fan' in 1892 at the same time that English dramatist George Bernard Shaw was struggling to establish himself on the British stage. Shaw's play 'Mrs. Warren's Profession' was written late in 1893 through early 1894. It is argued that Shaw's play is a reworking of or an intellectualization of Wilde's drama in an attempt to address issues that Wilde avoided.
