And tomorrow night, she takes on a monster role, playing the author Mary Shelley, wife of the wayward poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and creator of one of the most famous horror stories, Frankenstein.

The monster, which in the tale is brought to life by the ambitious Dr Frankenstein, has terrified generations of readers and is still a favourite with movie makers.
