'Animal Farm' is still relevant today because it teaches about the dangers of apathy and oppression. During his life, Orwell became distressed when some conservatives tried to interpret it as an attack on Communism, when it is really about the corrupting nature of all power.

Although he was a respected novelist and journalist in England during the '30s and early '40s, George Orwell (1903-50) had a hard time getting Animal Farm into print.
