Detailed Summary. Part One, Sections 1 - 3

1984 falls naturally into three Parts, with an Appendix on "The
Principles of Newspeak" which is extremely important, and which will be
analyzed separately in the present study. It will be compared and contrasted
with Orwell's key essay, written in 1946, entitled "Politics and the English
Language," an essay which contains not only the idea of Newspeak but also many
of the concepts embodied more imaginatively in 1984.
