The French writer Guy de Maupassant supposedly so disliked the Eiffel Tower that he went there every day for lunch, because the restaurant windows afforded one of the few views of Paris not blighted by the tower. It's a good story, but quite familiar. So there is no excuse for forgetting the moral of it: that you don't see your viewpoint when you're admiring the view. Still, I forgot it.
