Homer-Center sluggers advance to second round

HOMER CITY--The Homer-Center Wildcats never faced this kind of pressure last season, during their run to the state championship. They also didn't have to deal with a 12-day layoff or the distraction of playing their first game at Homer City in four years.

But those variables didn't stop the Wildcats from narrowly defeating Conemaugh Valley 3-2 Monday afternoon, in the first round of the District 6 Class A playoffs.

Homer-Center (16-1) continued its renewed quest for the state championship yesterday in the second round of the playoffs, hosting Portage, which defeated Claysburg-Kimmel 7-4.
