Homer, Alaska, on the tip of the Kenai Peninsula, just got a new dock capable of berthing an 850-foot ship, large enough for small cruise ships and the state's ferries. Not that Homer is a major port of call for most cruise lines, although the small fishing community is popular with vacationing Alaskans for its fishing, eco-excursions, numerous art galleries, and wondrous views of the Kachemak Bay and Kenai Mountains. But Homer wants to be more to the rest of the traveling world.
