Mar. 30--In the preface to his classic essay on German composer Richard Wagner, George Bernard Shaw stood up for serious works of drama, musing that the more lighthearted works of Shakespeare could never stand up to the Bard's true dramatic masterpieces. "A poet's sincerest vision of the world," Shaw wrote, "must always take precedence of his prettiest fool's paradise."
