From 'hot' to 'warm' in just a heartbeat

Ralph Waldo Emerson said that when two people speak heart-to- heart, their conversation will automatically drift toward being more generous, more virtuous and noble.

It's true for me.

When I've felt annoyed, all a person needs to do is say something from the heart to me and I'll go from being "hot" to being "warm" in a heartbeat.

I see that change in others as well. Sometimes, when readers will phone up in a huff, a few sincere words is enough to take the fire from their mouths. A heartfelt comment will often turn the most indignant caller into the most dignified.
