"Circles": A Detailed Summary

The thesis of this essay is actually stated succinctly in its opening
sentence - "the eye is the first circle; the horizon which it forms is the
second; and throughout nature this primary figure is repeated without end."
According to St. Augustine, the nature of God is a "circle whose center was
everywhere and its circumference nowhere." This suggests a copiousness of man,
life and the universe, "that every action admits of being outdone."
