Nolan Breaks Down:
Phillips' story indicates that about this time Nolan lost his habit of
acting very proud and boasting. They say that when Nolan was first imprisoned
he took the whole thing as a kind of a joke. He acted as though it did not
bother him in the least to be imprisoned aboard ship. He pretended that he
