Harry Houdini, the magician, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, became affectionate friends because of their deep interest in spiritualism. Their friendship started to wane when Houdini stated in an article published in the New York Sun, in Oct. 1922, that he doubted the seance they conducted with Lady Doyle. Since then Houdini and Conan Doyle declared their contradictory views through letters and magazines that strained their friendship.
