Chapter Forty-Five: In Trust

One morning Mr. Vholes, Richard's lawyer, arrives unexpectedly at Bleak
House and, hinting broadly that Richard's debts to him are considerable, seeks
to discover Richard's true financial position. Although he disclaims any
interest, except Richard's, he is careful to tell Esther "not to refer to me,
Miss, in communicating with Mr. C. [Richard Carstone]."
