Chapter Sixteen: Tom-All-Alone's

As Sir Leicester Dedlock awaits at Chesney Wold, nursing his share of the
family gout, Lady Dedlock goes to London. There, disguised as a servant, she
goes to Tom-All-Alone's, a dirty, ruined street filled with helpless humanity
and decayed buildings, a street whose buildings are part of the famous
Jarndyce and Jarndyce estate. Here, deceiving no one, for her manners reveal
