Other parents had warned me there is a "crossing the Rubicon" of moment in every Parent/Child Separation Agreement and that I'd know it when I saw it. Or heard it.

Two months into his second year in college, my son was coming home, not because he was horribly homesick, or because his friends were coming home, too, or because he thought we'd be hurt if he didn't.

No, he was coming home to, well, just "be home." So momentous was the occasion, the question slipped out before I'd thought it through.

"Um, did you have anything special in mind?"
