CHANCELLOR Gerhard Schrder stands accused of behaving like a Roman emperor for refusing to quit despite defeat in the German general election.

Critics of the leader, 61, are beginning to question his state of mind because of his insistence on clinging to power after being narrowly beaten by Angela Merkel in last Sunday's poll.
