LABOUR MP and former welfare minister Frank Field likens Gordon Brown to Mrs Rochester, the madwoman who burns down her husband's mansion in Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre.
'Allowing Gordon Brown into No 10 would be like letting Mrs Rochester out of the attic,' he says. 'If - Heaven forbid - there is a major security incident in the next few months, I wouldn't be surprised if Blair stayed on. People would not trust Brown to deal with it.'
