Since the future looked so dismal, Charlotte, who was usually the leader,
took steps to better their position. Without immediate prospects of marriage,
they had to earn money; they had to teach; they wanted to be together. What if
they were to start their own school? But for that Charlotte knew they needed
more education. She determined to get it and persuaded Aunt Branwell to
