"Lord Ronald said nothing; he flung himself from the room, flung himself upon his horse and rode madly off in all directions."

This sentence is vintage Leacock, and it comes from his sketch "Gertrude the Governess: or, Simple Seventeen," which appeared in his self-published collection of parodies called Nonsense Novels (1911). It is said that "riding madly off in all directions" entered the language when former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt made use of it in a political address, giving credit to Leacock for these ...
