MISSION WOODS, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 2003

Layne Christensen Company (Nasdaq:LAYN) today announced the election of J. Samuel Butler to Layne Christensen Company's Board of Directors and as a member of its Audit Committee. Mr. Butler will fill the seat vacated by Todd A. Fisher of the Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. firm.

Mr. Butler is currently President of Trinity Petroleum Management, LLC, an oil and gas management outsourcing company. He is also President of ST Oil Company and a Director of Colorado Wyoming Reserve Company.
