Calling education the ultimate civil right and the only door to the good life in America, a nationally known education expert rallied Eugene School District teachers and staff members in an inspirational speech on Thursday.

Robert Barr, former dean of the Oregon State University College of Education, spoke at the district's back-to-school session at South Eugene High School. Classes begin on Wednesday.
