NEW YORK Ring Lardner Jr., the last surviving member of the Hollywood Ten, a group of screenwriters who were jailed and blacklisted during the McCarthy era in the 1950s, has died at 85.
Mr. Lardner, who was born in Chicago and whose father was a famed humorist and baseball writer, died of cancer Tuesday at his home in New York City.
Mr. Lardner's satirical screenplays earned him two Academy Awards, but he was best known for his refusal to reveal his communist leanings to the House Un-American Activities Committee.
