Chronology Of Emile Zola's Life And Times

1840:

Emile Edouard Charles Antoine Zola born in the wholesale market district
of Paris, about which he was to write in Le Ventre de Paris (The Paris
Marketplace). His father, Francesco Zola, was a foreigner to France, an
Italian civil engineer from Venice of Greek and Italian heritage, who had left
Italy during the time following the fall of Napoleon when Austrian oppression
became insufferable to him. His mother, Emilie Aubert (Zola), was of
