Charles Dickens, W.M. Thackeray and Anthony Trollope are among the greatest novelists who lived during the Victorian era. They differed, however, in their literary styles. Dickens can best be described as a caricaturist, Trollope was a portrait-painter, while Thackeray was a 'clairvoyant.' Of these three, Trollope was the most prominent in terms of his familiarity with British upper class lifestyles and was the best when it came to presenting the most lifelike characters in fiction.
